Turnitin is a global company that develops software for the education sector to promote academic integrity and deter plagiarism.

Business Moves Group (BMG) was introduced to Turnitin by Ben Johnson Interiors, one of our fit out partners. Turnitin required a solution for the reconfiguration of their 6th floor Gallowgate offices in Newcastle which involved clearing out a significant amount of redundant furniture.

After we were appointed, we held a very productive meeting with project lead Gayle Summerly and conducted a detailed site survey of all redundant furniture within the building.

Planning and strategy

With a clear understanding of Turnitin’s needs, we assessed the volume and condition of the redundant furniture by analysing our SAP survey reports. Based on the insights gained from the survey, we forwarded the inventories and photographs of the redundant furniture to both our second-hand furniture partners and charity partners throughout the region. 

After receiving positive feedback, we prepared a detailed proposal for the client that not only was commercially beneficial due to plenty of the furniture having a resale value, but also ensured that all remaining redundant furniture was given second life opportunities with our charity partners. We created a proposal that generated a cost saving for Turnitin while also supporting local communities in a sustainable way.

Turnitin was very impressed with our two-tier approach. This strategy resulted in rebates for the redundant furniture and zero recycling charges and allowed for all remaining furniture to be donated to good causes. Turnitin was highly impressed with our work and appointed BMG to deliver all aspects of the clearance works.

Delivery in a short timeframe

One of the key challenges of the project was the tight timeline to deliver the works. This required close collaboration and coordination with Turnitin, the building manager, our Northern operations team and charity partners to ensure the works were delivered in the allocated time periods.

Through detailed planning, we were able to allocate members of our in-house furniture installation team, a senior team leader and a relocation team, all of which had previously worked on relocation projects in Newcastle. We used three 17-tonne vehicles from our extensive fleet to support the clearance of the redundant furniture and worked closely with Turnitin and the building manager to conduct tasks and meet deadlines.

The result

The successful reconfiguration of Turnitin’s Galloway office showed BMG’s expertise with managing clearance projects under tight deadlines.  Turnitin benefitted from financial rebates, zero recycling charges and a charitable contribution to the community. Through effective planning, efficient resource allocation and sustainable practices, we were able to exceed the clients’ expectations.
