Ramboll is a global architecture, engineering and consultancy company founded in Denmark in 1945. Its 17,000 experts across 35 countries create sustainable solutions across buildings, transport, energy, environment and health, water, management consulting and architecture and landscape. In the UK, Ramboll employs 1,400 people based in 16 locations.

In the past 18 months, Business Moves Group supported the firm with projects at four of its UK sites.

Workplace change and relocation support

Edinburgh – relocation

In December 2021 a BMG team of nine helped Ramboll move to a new office. This included moving 48 desks, 86 chairs, 15 crates and IT equipment.

Cambridge - relocation

In March 2022 we moved 24 height-adjustable desks, 30 chairs and 34 monitors as part of an office relocation. We also helped to clear out remaining items from the old office - some went into storage and some were recycled.

Southampton - relocation

Ramboll’s previous Southampton office was a little too far outside the city, and the firm wanted a more central location to make it easier for its employees to commute in and out on office days.

We supported the relocation by moving 112 desks, 112 chairs, 80 crates, and miscellaneous items such as office supplies, cleaning items and kitchenware. After the move was completed, BMG went to the old office to complete the clearance. This included taking furniture into storage and to recycling centres.

As with all recycling we carry out across any project, we work with partners that break down all materials so that every element is recycled. We then provide the client with a recycling report so they can see for themselves what materials were salvaged and how they were reused in the circular economy. Chester – workplace change

Ramboll wanted to enhance its Chester office to encourage staff to come in more often. One approach was to replace existing desks with sit-stand desks.

A key benefit of working with a relocation and change management partner with its own storage and distribution network is that physical assets can easily be managed and moved between sites as and when required. The Chester project was carried out shortly after the Southampton relocation, and we had sit-stand desks in storage ready to be utilised at other Ramboll sites.

The project was delivered over a weekend in March 2023. That meant that the office did not need to close, and staff were able to return on Monday to a new modern office.

To achieve this timeline we had a team of 14 onsite to dismantle, load and recycle 96 desks, and a separate team of 14 to rebuild the new sit-stand desks and to install 27 lockers units.

Chippenham - relocation

Following the success of these projects, Ramboll has requested our support for a potential relocation project in Chippenham.

Exceptional work

Christopher Clegg, Facilities Manager UK at Ramboll, shared this feedback with us:

“I just wanted to express my thanks and appreciation for a really good piece of work once again from BMG, this time with the Chester office.”

“As expected, Callum managed this incredibly well with a big team of people all pulling in the same direction. Kevin is worth his place on a pedestal anytime, and having these two guys running the show ensures we have full confidence and reliability that the job will be delivered professionally and on time.”

“It’s massively appreciated having them stay up at the weekend to get this over the line and the feedback from the team has been exceptional - they’re really pleased. We’ve got plenty of work coming up so touch wood we can roll onto the next one and I’ll be honest if I can have Callum / Kevin on retainers they’re worth it!”
