Rapid response to restore a vital healthcare facility

In March 2024, the GP surgery in Gloucestershire suffered severe flood damage that left key areas of the premises unusable. As a preferred supplier to the NHS, Business Moves Group (BMG) was contacted to urgently assess the situation and provide immediate support. The priority was clear: respond quickly to prevent further disruption to clinical services and help the surgery resume operations as soon as possible.

Efficient clearance with a focus on sustainability

One of the first priorities was the removal of water-damaged flooring, which posed a safety and hygiene risk. The BMG team removed approximately 1,500 kg of saturated carpet from the premises. All material was diverted from landfill through our sustainable disposal channels, saving an estimated 3,225 kg of CO²e, based on WRAP guidance for landfill avoidance.

Throughout the clearance phase, BMG ensured the site was kept safe, clean, and accessible for essential staff, allowing limited operations to continue during the recovery effort.

Smart reuse to accelerate reoccupation

To help the surgery return to full service quickly and cost-effectively, BMG sourced and supplied high-quality second-hand furniture from its national reuse network. This included desks, storage, and patient-facing items selected specifically to suit the surgery’s space and functionality needs.

Leveraging our AssetLOOK digital inventory platform, BMG catalogued all available furniture assets and shared them with the client in real time. The surgery team was able to remotely view, select, and manage items via the secure online portal. This significantly improved transparency, sped up approvals, and reduced decision-making pressure during a critical period.

This approach also supported NHS sustainability goals, helping the surgery avoid the cost and environmental impact of purchasing new furniture unnecessarily.
