Multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy Harley Haddow recently underwent an office refurbishment project in Princes Street in the heart of Edinburgh.

The consultancy has a long-standing reputation for excellence and was keen to create a revitalised, modern workspace that reflected both the collaborative nature of their team and the forward-thinking ethos of the business.

Project overview

Harley Haddow needed a full transformation of the office space, with an upgraded layout, modern finishes, and a carefully curated selection of furniture to enhance functionality and comfort while aligning with the refreshed design scheme.

The space was redesigned and delivered by &More Design Consultants and Datel Interiors, who coordinated with our team to ensure the spaces were cleared and ready. Business Moves Group (BMG) was responsible for removing all furniture to be reused in the refurbished space, and items were kept safely at our on-site storage facility until the installation phase, allowing the refurbishment to move forward without disruption.

We also decommissioned and recommissioned all IT and were responsible for coordinating the ethical recycling and redistribution of all redundant furniture.

Furniture lifecycle management

Rather than allowing these items to go to waste, we worked closely with local non-profit organisations to donate the surplus pieces to good causes, ensuring that the furniture would be reused and appreciated elsewhere.

We donated two sofas, 10 task chairs and a reception desk to a local charity, resulting in complete landfill avoidance.

Navigating a busy city centre

Naturally, with the project taking place in a busy city centre location, there were logistical hurdles to overcome. Limited access, pedestrian-heavy zones, and tight delivery windows meant that careful planning and coordination were essential.

It was a hands-on day for the team – who definitely got their steps in – but everything came together smoothly thanks to a collaborative effort and great communication between all involved. The move itself was completed within a two-day period, making the new office ready for colleagues to move in by the end of March.

The result

Our lifecycle furniture approach supported Harley Haddow’s commitment to sustainability and helped reduce environmental impact while benefiting the wider community.

This project stands as a fantastic example of teamwork, thoughtful design, and sustainability in action. The result is a fresh, functional, and beautifully finished space that Harley Haddow can be proud of for years to come.

Client feedback

“A huge thank you to BMG for a highly-efficient move that kept our important assets safe and ensured that our old furniture did not go to waste. Not only did they help the removal and installation phase go smoothly, their calm and flexible approach made the coordination with us and the design teams a breeze.”

– Natasha Rose, operations and events manager at Harley Haddow.
