Case study: Technical distribution of MFDs

Business Moves Group (BMG) was engaged by one of our long-standing technology clients to support the nationwide rollout of A3 multifunctional devices (MFDs) on behalf of their end customer. This wasn’t just a simple delivery and collection job – the project called for a fully bespoke solution involving both installation and decommissioning.

A critical component of the service was the smooth transfer of IP addresses from legacy equipment to the new devices to ensure uninterrupted connectivity for end users. On top of that, access to many of the delivery sites was severely restricted, with equipment needing to be stair-walked into tiered portacabins – sometimes as many as four levels high.

To add to the challenge, the rollout took place across the winter months, requiring additional safety planning and flexibility to keep the project on track.

The solution

We designed and delivered a robust solution combining our technical distribution expertise with meticulous coordination between our service and operational teams and the client’s project managers and IT specialists. Each delivery followed a predefined script to ensure consistency and compliance with technical requirements.

Our teams used specialist stair-walking equipment to manage the safe handling of devices weighing between 140–170kg, often in environments with limited or no lift access. More than 90% of the movements required this kind of complex handling.

The devices we installed were fully connected to site networks, with IP addresses transferred from the old machines to the new as part of the seamless switchover. Every device removed from site was returned to a BMG facility, where it was securely reformatted, reset to factory settings, and prepared for resale through trade channels.

Throughout the project, we maintained full audit trails and transparent communication with the client’s administrators and project leads to keep everything on schedule and aligned with key milestones.
