We recently partnered with a world-leading armour manufacturer and vehicle integrator, where we provided a comprehensive and strategic phased move that consolidated its units and supported its expansion towards a larger Midlands-based manufacturing facility, in support of its 2025 growth strategies.

Project overview

In December 2024, our journey began with a simple LinkedIn message. The client’s project manager reached out, seeking a partner to support its ambitious expansion. On the same day, BMG called the client to discuss the project and key timeline.

Within a week, a pre-move site survey was constructed to identify key relocation timelines, and what equipment was required to carry the move against the client’s deadline.

After this survey, we understood the complexity of the move. We assembled our heavy haulage experts to conduct a second, in-depth assessment to identify equipment requiring specialist handling and transport.

Phased move overview

After these two surveys were completed, we developed a strategic four-phased move plan tailored to the client’s needs.

Phase one: On the first day we planned to deliver all necessary packing materials, including all IT equipment and bubble bags for desk users.

We also provided targeted solutions for critical areas like the pack down of the white room (a highly controlled environment for manufacturing sensitive components), Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) cabinets that included bottles of transmission fluids, and other loose items removed from the dismantled racking systems.

Phase two: Over ten days, we planned to relocate 344 pallets varying in size and weight. Our team carefully removed items from existing racking systems and relocated loose warehousing items included in the inventory list.

Phase 3: Over two days, we planned to relocate the substantial equipment, including heavy haulage items. These included protected patrol vehicles, overheard lift systems, and pallets of tyres.

Phase 4: Over five days, we finally planned to focus on office and remaining warehouse items, including packed crates.

After these phases were outlined, a final pre-move planning meeting was held in January to finalise the timeframe and adjust the scope of work. It was estimated to be completed end of February 2025.

Results

In total, 588 items were packed and expertly relocated. These items ranged from COSHH cabinets, crates and racking, to desks, scales, suspension display models, inspection tables and work benches.

BMG exceeded expectations by completing the full relocation ahead of the projected timeline, generating significant cost savings for the clients. The remaining budget was reallocated to updating the new office furnishings.

Sustainable solutions

We recognised our client’s environmental consciousness and leveraged our second-hand dealer network to source furniture purchased with the reallocated additional budget.

We conducted showroom tours with our partners and drafted an itemised brochure of furniture. Together, we identified furniture that met the client’s branding requirements. This upgraded the office functionality and style for the new space.

This approach not only reduced costs for the client, giving old furniture a new lease of life, and reducing its CO2 impact.

Client testimonial

The client’s project manager said: “BMG were instrumental in executing a smooth and swift move of our assets that met stringent regulations at the same time. We were thrilled that the relocation was completed ahead of schedule and appreciate their support in finding sustainable furniture solutions for us.”
