Case study: Office relocation and sustainable asset management for Smartnumbers

Smartnumbers is a software company specialising in AI-powered, cloud-based solutions to secure contact centres against fraud.

Business Moves Group (BMG) helped Smartnumbers relocate its office and remove all unwanted furniture and assets in a flexible and phased execution that met our mutual sustainability goals.

Project overview

The project initially began as a lead originating from a fit-out organisation BMG regularly supports, and we were put in contact with Smartnumbers’ chief HR officer to understand their specific needs.

We then conducted a full site survey and developed a tailored solution to address the key requirements of recycling all unwanted furniture and supporting the relocation to the new premises.

An initial challenge of the project was that a relocation date could not be provided, which meant developing a flexible and phased execution. 

The phased approach

We oversaw the relocation in two key phases:

Phase one: Resale of office equipment. We partnered with our trusted network of sustainability-focused buyers to resell the usable chairs and desk.

Phase two: Office relocation. Once the final move-in date was provided, we maintained close coordination with Smartnumbers to ensure all furniture was moved to the new office.

Sustainable solutions

As a result of the phased approach, we could extend the life of furniture as much as possible. BMG identified a significant portion of Smartnumbers’ assets for reselling and others that could be donated through our charity partner network, greatly reducing landfill waste and minimising carbon impact.

This resulted in:

• 60 task chairs resold
• 66 height-adjustable desks resold
• £7,272 in savings returned to the client

Outcome

The project delivered value to our client by reducing the cost associated with unused assets, minimising environmental impact, and using a flexible approach to offer minimal disruption to the office.
