Business Moves Group (BMG) completed three office relocation projects in August 2023 for a global online retail giant. These projects saw the relocation of 1,650 staff into new offices at a brand-new headquarters and an internal move between two of the current locations in Central London.

The projects took place across three consecutive weekends, ensuring minimal business downtime. It involved the delivery of technical services, the emptying of the old office site and the relocation of IT and office equipment to the new sites in a phased approach.

Pre-move stages

Pre-move checks were carried out before the bulk of the project got underway. This included employees packing away their personal belongings before BMG porters began the project work.

IT checks were run to ensure all technology devices were in working order before being packed away for the move. By undertaking these checks before the move, the team were able to identify any potentially faulty items to be fixed before they were unpacked in the new space, minimising downtime.

Relocation

The three relocation projects included:

  • Relocation of 600 staff to a new location
  • Internal relocation of 900 staff within one of the locations in central London
  • Internal relocation of 150 staff within the other location in central London

The technical services team were deployed for the unpacking and roll out of all new IT equipment across all floors in the first project at the new location, including hundreds of PCs, computer screens, and other accessories in preparation for staff to move into the new office. As part of BMG’s commitments, waste and packaging from the new equipment were removed from the site and recycled.

The relocation of staff to the new office included their personal items, departmental storage and equipment, and some specialist devices and materials. All were transported safely and securely to the new sites with the aid of specialist packing.

The internal moves projects also saw the relocation of office furniture, staff belongings and other office accessories such as orthopaedic chairs that required specialist movers.

Our move manager was on site across the moving weekends with the porters and team leaders to facilitate the move. The team provided resources and equipment to carry out the relocation of staff to the new space and within the existing office.

Post-relocation support

The BMG team attended the sites to support post-move snags and assist the teams in integrating into the new space.

This included ensuring all tech was set back up to standard and was in working order, signposting employees to the new locations for storage, helping staff with where to find the right working resources and any other support required.
