Case study: Broadcom workplace relocation

Broadcom Inc. is a global infrastructure technology leader focusing on technologies that connect our world. The company is headquartered in San Jose, California, with offices across the world. Business Moves Group recently supported Broadcom’s relocation from two separate office spaces in Edinburgh into Exchange Tower.

The move was completed over two phases. BMG first supported Broadcom in April 2022 with its first move from 102 West Port to Exchange Tower. The second phase of the move, from The Curve to Exchange Tower, was carried out in January 2023. Broadcom has now settled into the 6^th Floor of Exchange Tower, which offers high levels of natural daylight and beautiful 360-degree views over the city and the castle.

Relocating specialist and valuable equipment

The first phase of the move involved relocating all furniture, IT equipment and files. The second phase of the move was more substantial and was considered a specialist move as it involved packing and relocating highly valuable pieces of equipment.

These items included heavy machinery and equipment such as incubators, telescopes, and servers. Our experienced team were able to confidently dismantle, pack and relocate the equipment safely. This involved more than 120 LC3 crates and 30 IT crates, which are specifically designed for moving IT equipment.

We determined during the pre-project planning stage that approximately 160 crates were required  for the relocation from The Curve. It was agreed that the Broadcom team would arrange to have most items packed ahead of the move. Prior to the scheduled move, our client was in touch to request pre-move support to ensure that everything was packed ready for the deadline. Our pre-move support team were up against the clock but were able to efficiently pack all the remaining items in time.

The move was delivered over four days by a team of eight. Following the relocation, there was approximately five tonnes of redundant office furniture for disposal. As is the case in all of our projects, we worked with a waste management partner to ensure that all materials were separated and put back into the circular economy. We supplied Broadcom with a recycling report that detailed this process.

There were also several laptops for disposal. These were destroyed by our e-waste partners prior to disposal to ensure all confidential information was removed. Following this, we recycled any materials that remained.
