Business Moves Group (BMG) supported a major care provider in the West Midlands as it undertook a project to refurbish its outpatient department. BMG has assisted the care provider with several moves and changes over the past few years and provided clearance and temporary storage of furniture while the work took place.

Project overview

The project began in September 2024 with a comprehensive site survey conducted by our group operations director Terry Fox. Pre-move surveys and planning involved conducting detailed site assessments to determine relocation requirements, including volume of items, special handling needs, and logistical challenges.

This was followed by detailed inventory management to catalogue all items for tracking and accountability during relocation. The clearance took place over two days in October 2024, with the furniture scheduled to be returned over two days in late June 2025.

Site clearance

The outpatient department building was completely emptied, with all furniture collected from the campus while refurbishment works were undertaken. All furniture has been stored at BMG's Birmingham branch, representing a total storage volume of 3,750 cubic feet (equivalent to 15 containers). Each item was inventoried per container and carefully wrapped using blankets and bubble wrap to ensure protection during logistics and storage.

The clearance included soft furnishings from reception areas, waiting areas, and offices. Consultation room workstations and patient trolleys were also systematically removed. All items were subject to protective packing and labelling to ensure secure transportation and clear identification for easy placement upon return.

BMG's approach ensured the disassembly, transportation, and careful handling of furniture while minimising disruption to ongoing hospital operations.

Logistics support and storage

BMG provided two lorries to make multiple trips between the care provider’s outpatient department and BMG’s warehouse facility. Vehicles were selected to ensure all furniture was secure and protected from damage throughout transportation.

Throughout this project, BMG has maintained compliance with health and safety standards, adhering to lifting, loading, and transportation safety protocols to protect workers and prevent damage.

BMG provided storage services in accordance with the care provider’s agreed specifications to ensure the safekeeping of its assets during the refurbishment period.

Results

BMG successfully completed the clearance phase on schedule and within budget. The systematic approach ensured minimal disruption to hospital operations while maintaining the integrity of all stored items.
