A delicate move for high-precision healthcare equipment

Business Moves Group (BMG) was appointed by a private healthcare provider to manage the relocation of a high-end echocardiogram system between two of its London clinics. Valued at approximately £130,000, the equipment is critical to the client’s preventative and diagnostic service model.

The client, which launched its UK operations in 2024, is expanding its footprint through a growing network of clinics that provide early diagnostic services to promote long-term health outcomes. With no room for error, the move required meticulous planning, specialist handling and close collaboration with the client’s senior clinical team.

Planning for precision in a clinical environment

Given the complexity and value of the medical device, BMG’s first priority was to gather detailed technical specifications relating to the machine’s size, weight, configuration and casing. This allowed the project team to plan an appropriate route, select the right transport equipment and ensure safe handling throughout.

A crew with proven experience in relocating sensitive medical technology was assigned to the project, both of whom held relevant training credentials and demonstrated an understanding of the demands associated with med tech logistics. Additional insurance arrangements were agreed with the client to cover the full replacement value of the device, offering extra reassurance in the event of unforeseen disruption.

Executing a time-critical, fault-free relocation

The client required the echocardiogram unit to be relocated on the same day and at a specific time, to minimise downtime in patient appointments and to ensure continuity in diagnostic services. Direct communication between BMG’s technical services director and the client’s senior medical team ensured expectations were aligned, timings confirmed, and all medical protocols respected.

On the day of the move, enhanced packaging materials and protective equipment were deployed to mitigate any risks, and the crew delivered the equipment to the new location without issue. From collection to reinstallation, the entire operation was completed in just two hours.

Setting the standard for future relocations

The project was completed seamlessly, with no technical issues or delays. The echocardiogram system was operational in its new location on time, and the client was able to maintain its service delivery without interruption.

The successful delivery of this project has laid the groundwork for a broader partnership, with BMG already engaged in discussions to manage the relocation of additional equipment and support the client’s future clinic openings, including a larger diagnostic device and ancillary systems scheduled to move from London to Manchester.

This project demonstrates BMG’s growing reputation as a trusted partner in the specialist healthcare logistics sector, with the technical capability and assurance needed to manage highly sensitive, high-value medical assets.
